Sydney School of Entrepreneurship - annual reports
We wrote the inaugural annual report for the Sydney School of Entrepreneurship (SSE), a collaboration between all 11 NSW universities and TAFE NSW to promote tertiary students’ entrepreneurship skills. We interviewed the Chair and CEO, combining information from various sources, working with the Chief Operating Officer and our graphic designer to meet a tight deadline.
The 52-page report covered SSE’s establishment and early development, and documented progress achieving the key performance indicators required by the NSW Department of Industry which provided cornerstone funding for the venture.
After the success of the first report, SSE commissioned us to write the next 2017-18 edition.
UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT - videos
We scripted, directed and produced a series of videos for the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The videos covered the work of UTS Rapido, a unit within the faculty that fosters industry collaboration, and the faculty’s Master of Business and Technology, an elite degree that helps technology professionals gain a deep understanding of managing and leading an enterprise.
Working with our director of photography, sound recordist and editor, we interviewed academics, students and industry executives to create the content the faculty needed to highlight these activities on its website and social media.
Western Sydney University - brochures
Working with Western Sydney University International, we fulfilled a detailed brief to create two brochures for international students considering studying and living at Western Sydney University’s various campuses for a semester - a 28-page Study Abroad brochure an 8-page Study Exchange brochure. We interviewed students, wrote and edited the content, and advised on photography and brochure layout.
We also wrote and edited a 55-page Welcome International Students guide. For another aspect of international student recruitment, we created three 12-page brochures promoting the School of Business to potential postgraduate and undergraduate students from overseas. We included case studies of current international students, successful alumni and industry partners.
We also produced a 20-page corporate brochure for the School and worked with our graphic designer to create a print-ready document.
UTS Insearch - web content
For a global marketing campaign, we interviewed about 25 alumni from all over the world. We told their stories from the time they left their home country to study in Australia, the challenges they faced and how they overcame them. The students had all embarked on successful careers or started their own businesses.
UTS Insearch made use of the content across multiple platforms, on a new website, in social media posts, in brochures and other promotional material, to help drive recruitment of future students to study at UTS Insearch in preparation to begin a degree at UTS.
Australian Museum - magazine
The Australian Museum hired Narrate Media co-founder Melinda Ham as consulting editor to revamp the content of Explore, the members’ magazine of the 190-year old institution. She edited the biannual magazine for three editions, collaborating with an editorial committee of scientists, researchers and AM staff to develop story ideas.
Melinda wrote and commissioned articles, interviewed key researchers and exhibition managers, ghost wrote some articles and edited contributed material. She worked closely with the AM’s graphic designer, photographer and executive to finalise the layout to a print-ready standard.
Macquarie University - The Lighthouse
Macquarie University’s digital magazine, the Lighthouse, showcases the university’s new research by producing topical news stories. The university shares these stories on social media and they are often picked up by the mainstream press. This leads to many of the Lighthouse stories being reprinted in Fairfax and News Corp publications. Macquarie academics are also then interviewed on television and radio.
The Lighthouse is commissioning Melinda on an ongoing basis to interview academics and write stories about their research. Melinda writes the stories. Mike edits them and then they incorporate revisions from the academics, creating a web-ready story ready to be published.
Australian Volunteers International
Australian Volunteers International (AVI) a not-for-profit that works globally, commissioned us to project manage and design their 2018 annual report. They provided the content and statistics, then we designed the entire document, selected photos, wrote captions and turned data into engaging and colourful infographics.
We incorporated stakeholders revisions to produce a print-ready document.
Planet Ark - research report
Planet Ark, an Australian not-for-profit environmental organisation founded in 1982, asked us to write a report as a focal point for their annual National Tree Day. Planet Ark had conducted a survey of 200 teachers on the skills and attributes children need to cope with future challenges. They required supporting evidence to make the case for teachers and parents to encourage children to spend more time outdoors.
Narrate Media analysed Australian and international peer-reviewed academic research, combined the results of Planet Ark’s survey with assessments of global challenges. We wrote Learning From Trees: Life Lessons for Future Generations. We completed the first draft and then collaborated with Planet Ark’s team to finesse the final 24-page document.
